A few people have pointed out that if we were REALLY interested in enlightenment, change, a new life, etc we wouldn’t be spending our time blogging, organising a public adventure and letting as many people know about it as possible!
I thought about this a lot and the truth is I have spent 20 years trying to break out of my rut. I have read everything under the sun, practiced many disciplines, been to more seminars and workshops than you can shake a stick at. Yet despite a huge and costly effort on my part something was always missing.
In the end the things that made the most difference to me was the inspiration and help of a few ‘angels’. People with a passion to help who, despite my rude resistance, sceptic’s indignation and manic depression in the early years never gave up on me.
These were not family- not even people I knew as friends in the typical sense. They were people who were just there. Sharing the wisdom they had in good times and bad.
Without them to bounce my thoughts off I may never have come out of the dark places my life was going into.
So you ask ‘WHY do we make such a public declaration of this ‘Life Change Experiment’ – two reasons.
1) Not everyone is lucky enough to have the angels we had. My hope is for a community of like minded people – Helping facilitate the old saying “When the student is ready the masters will appears”.
Books just don’t cut it on their own, but free, live, day by day, community, research, collective wisdom, inspiration and support can make all the difference.
2) This is after all an experiment and experiments need data. More people = more data and better results. Personally I want to learn as much as I can about how people improve their lives and overcome their hurdles. And I want to share that with as many people as want to know.
Finally the joy we are receiving from doing what is so out of our comfort zone is indescribably liberating and fun. So rather than worrying about WHY we are letting people know about it – Perhaps you should wonder why you AREN’T!

I'm really glad you wrote that…
wish i could come.
You guys shouldn't have to justify what you are doing. If you feel it is right for you then do it and everyone can think what they like.
Personally I like following this experiment and I really hope that it works out well and I can pick up some tips along the way.
i really commend your decision to have a new turning point to what could have been an easy flow life… just goes to show that not all people in the limelight live for the moment and bask in the glory of popularity and what it brings… congratulations to those that would have a piece of your momentos – i tried to email but three times my email bounced, i guess its not meant to be me … take care and I hope in the future your pretty precious Blubell will also benefit from the changes that you made. Take care and our thoughts are with you guys.
I Love everything about "The Life Change Experiment". The blogs just everything!
The greatest idea, I have nothing but admiration for Bessie & Geoff. Reading their websites I have learned so much.
By making this public, as I have mentioned before -like so many others, it reminds me of the movie "Pay it forward", & also the Movie & book, "The magnificent Obsession".
If it feels right for you and your family …GO FOR IT and don't worry about what others think…
I made a huge life change about 2 years ago with the support of my family,(we Foster and run a Supported Accommodation Facility that supports people with life challenges).
Some days I wonder WHY we ever did it, but knowing we make a difference to the people who need our support and to the world we live in makes it all worthwhile.I am not saying our choice has been a easy one, and some days and weeks are harder than others. Not everyone agreed with our decision either and I know about the questions of WHY ARE U DOING THIS? but remember this-
IT IS BETTER TO LIVE YOUR DREAM THAN TO REGRET NEVER HAVING LIVED IT ,OR TO EVEN HAVE TRIED…
We at the One Twenty Homestead, look forward to your updates…
We wish you well, and hope that your life change is all that you want it to be and more.. I hope you find what your looking for….
I know you have family in Brisbane, but if your ever in the area and looking for a meal, drop us a line,YOUR more than WECLOMED.

Geoff, Bess, there are no wrong choices, there are only different choices. And please remember…..Always be a first rate version of yourself, and never a second rate version of somebody else!!!

Dear Geoff, hi, I just came to know about this giveaway today. Do you have anything that I could have as a rememberance of this exciting idea that you all had. I love books, dvds and jewellery. I feel sad that I only heard about this giveaway today. Is there any hope for me? I admire what you and Bessie are doing. Wishing you all the very best with life and everything you choose to do.
Hi glad to hear you are nearly on your way should be very exciting for all of you and I look forward to your updates on a regular basis. People ask silly questions because they have nothing better to do with their time dont let it upset you in any way.
Dear Bessie and Geoff
Congrats on making such a life changing decision! I reckon 90% of people don’t even know what they want to do in life and that maybe 9% actually know what they want to do, leaving only 1% who actually DO anything about it! Good on you for being one of the 1% in life. I’ve been slowly joining you in the last 6 months and the first step has been non-attachment.
Look forward to hearing more.
Carolyn
I think what you are doing is wonderful. I am sure thousands of people have been inspired in some way or another by all that you have done and now taking that big leap into the unknown. I wish you and your family all the very best for your next adventure. I know lots of people who would like to be in your position. Good on you.
Your effort, portraying thoughts and ideas and use of press is the tool and oil of your journey machine for More exposure to more people, is a wonderful gift.
I offer you the support to never second guess yourselves.
I say to all those negative Nancy’s out there,
back off from this lovely couple.
A critic is someone who is not fulfilling their own dreams or does not have the talent to do what they are critising.
I defend only with joy, protection of, pride and support of what you are doing. That what ever may occur on your journey or how you handle it, with bumps, hills and all, know you have one person who will always say “onya!” no matter what.
The grateful gal, Sassy
Hey Sassy Gal, I wonder how many of your ‘negative Nancys’ turned up at the last Friday Giveaway Bash? That is if they could get an invite from someone! Woudn’t surprise me if there were a few trying to get something for nothing from this beautiful couple just to say ‘Ha Ha’, look what I conned out of this pair of gooses! Gee I would love to meet just one of this kind of idiot just to let them know, in no uncertain terms, what I thought of them. I’m 71yo and because of my wrecked body, I couldn’t get to the final day to try to avail myself of some keepsake to remember these guys by. I live in Canberra, too, which made it even harder to get there (double bugger). Oh well, I intend to follow them around on a big map of the OZ I have set up in my shed, so I will be with them in spirit at least. I’m looking forward to the start of their journey in the big Winnebago.
Hi guys, if you come my way at Tweed Heads, drop by on a Wednesday at 12.30pm at the iBar in Tweed Heads itself & meet me & my volunteers giving free food to the pensioners. We get the food donated by kind people but the bakeries here won’t give us bread. They say it will take their business away. They give it to others so why not us? Discrimination. Pensioners cannot afford bakery bread.
I hope to have talks with a church & salvos in October to try and start a storehouse to sell food cheap to pensioners. Wish me luck.
I wish I could come, and meet you in person. You’re amazing what you’re doing. And so brave. I will follow your adventure on the net. All the very best.
The world would be a better place if we all followed an example in Maxwells’ book “In His Steps” in which he suggested to take a pledge “What would Jesus do?” considering before taking action in every aspect of life.If people give of their earthly goods towards less fortunate folk, with a right heart, until it hurts, then they will be blessed. God bless you both!
Hi guys,
It is amazing to think, how two amazing people can just pick up and leave everything behind, not knowing what the future will hold, especially with a little one in your presence.
Good luck with the trip and I really hope the experience is enlightening for you both and you have a ball.
Cheers Ak
want to know what has happened with all the stuff that people from other states/sydney applied to have given the note here says about the last day to get stuff. who got the stuff – like the lounge, computers, etc.
still not sure if this is for real or not as the only time i have heard from you since i registered was one email that i didn’t get to read as it was in the junk and i missed it as i was going through my emails.
do fully agree you should just get rid of your stuff and go away and stop blogging, facebooking and twittering. this makes it an unreal story if you keep doing these things.
just my thoughts and questions.
