DESERT MORNING

WOW who knew the desert could be so beautiful. Woke this morning after parking ’who knows where’ to this stunning view. A sea in the middle of a desert!

SPREADING A MESSAGE HIS OWN WAY

Imagine a giant mound of trash, bales, mud and logs in the middle of nowhere. Literally! All covered in pretty paint and one unmissable message ‘GOD LOVES YOU!!”

Thats been the life work of one man who has put 50 years into this project. Living in the scorching heat he continues to build his monument on the donations of passers by.

I interviewed him. His message is simple ‘God loves everyone’ – As he says, “the honkong’es the Eskimos and the north and south pole’es and even the Germans’, apparently!!

His inspiration? Hearing about when the troops got out of their trenches and played footy in the famous World War one Christmas armistas.

He realised that at the heart of all men is ‘gods love, and he wanted to be a catalyst to remind people of that love.  Gotta say as nuts as it seems you have to admire the sentiment and passion. I was strangely touched after leaving this bizzare place!

SLAB CITY – ALTERNATIVE COMUNITY

If you have seen into the wild you have seen Slab City. The guy stays there for a bit. This is an INSANE place. People living in the most bizzare, creative, disgusting and interesting hovels and homes you can imagine. There are pretty much no rules or laws other than to be nice to each other. Its all free and quite an eye openor!


KARMA KITCHEN

We came accross the Karma Kitchen – An ex Computer programmer and Psychologist who gave up ‘normal’ life to live in slab city and cook up a storm for the locals all for free. The food they get is donated, as is the time and preparation. Anyone can eat and all are welcome. They say the only thing they miss about ‘civilization’ is a spa and being able to leave the tv on one in a while.
