When you come down to Victoria you can’t leave until you have visited ‘The Prom’ which is the southern most point of mainland Australia. It is postcard picture perfect and one of the most relaxing places you can visit. Tidal River is the end of the road, so you don’t have any through traffic and you can get to meet travellers from all over the place. A must see!!!

Hi guys, just curious as to whether Geoff got his truck licence? I have an idea for you. When in Brisbane, contact Young Care, an organisation for young people who require high nursing care, and arrange to talk to them about your inspirational views on life and perhaps a concert of some description. Just a thought. Have fun, take care.

    Andrea.

You should vist Springfield QLD and south bank, aussie world and maybe you could drop in for an aussie barbie by emailing before hand so i can check with my parents it would be heaps of fun and hervey bay whale watching cruises are superb.

you should go wherever your feet take you, explore the other side of life. i have done this many times with an ex partner, just couple suitcases and buses or trains.from melbourne to brisbane, sydney, perth, adelaide and all points in between.
met some crazy people and good ones , stayed in places tourists dont go to. so as i always say,: GO WITH THE FLOW. and you will be amazed at what you will see and learn about your fellow man.i could go on and on but will just say this, if it feels good , DO IT,
HAPPY JOURNEY. i have only just settled down and i am 69yrs old, so you see there is no age limit to do what you want.

Hi, We did the same as you guys about 2 years ago. We gave our belongings away and put our personel stuff in storage. We have been on the road for 2 years now with our 2 children. Home schooling them, having a ball. Dont know what we are doing from one day to another.
Do what’s in our heart and just go wherever the road takes ya.
We started off in a little 14ft caravan, after 4 months we gave it away and brought a camper trailer, we owned that for 3 months before buying a 40ft bus. Life on the road is great.
We are still travelling now, after 2 years we have only made it from burnie tas to walgett nsw, working our away around.
    Have fun and happy times.

You should come to Westleigh. It’s a ‘dead end’ suburb (that means you cant go through westleigh to get to anywhere else) and it is three quaters surrounded by bush. There is an hotel on Pennant Hills road in thornleigh. Have a good trip adn if you are coming past westleigh you should drop by.

Good morning, I think in your journey to Spirital, and personal growth a stop in CaNaDa would be the top of my list. Canada has long enjoyed great popularity as a tourist destintation. World famous natural beauty ( The Niagria falls and the impressive montain scenery in the Banff and Jasper National Parks are just examples, immense areas of vast country side, but also cities rich in tradition such as Quebec and Montreal and the vibrant developing cities including Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver with outstanding examples of modern architecture all worth the journey.

I think you would also enjoy, and experience the different cultures that Canada has to offer. Your journey would also enable you to enter into the USA to experience the culture & customs…

    Regards,

    Leo

Not long now you adventurers. Go where your heart and head tells you. You have the rest of your young lives to see the entire world, starting with our beautiful country. Whatever you are doing take care of yourselves and that special little angel you have, and may God be with you at all times. I am looking forward to reading about all the places you visit and the mischief you get up to, and I am sure there will be some very funny times to, Please remember to always:- Keep the Rubber on the Road”.

I am so inspired by what you are doing and think it is a real change considering how important our THINGS become to us. I think when you get up as far as north queensland you should stop into the Burdekin, try and make it durring the “crushing season” when all the local farmers burn their sugar cane off. The cane fires are one of the most beautiful and exciting things I have ever seen. Also Ayr the largest town in the Burdekin is a lovely little community and well worth a look. Enjoy your trip and hope to see you rolling through north queensland, you will never find any where as relaxed and friendly as north queensland.

I did something similar in 1994, I sold my car, furniture, cashed in my superannuation and lived in Thailand for 1 year, I felt so unburdened when I did not have the material processions holding me back, I ended up living on a scuba diving boat and doing my dive master certification, I remarried and now am happy with my new life. Soon I will be sitting for my Scuba Instructor Exams, and can go and live back in another country and teach, I came from a negative part in my life to a positive and a career change.

    Mary L Northam September 27th, 2009 (#)

Hello, I have a good friend, Suzie, who needs your car………. I know I guess lots of people do! Suzie has been doing it really hard iwth previous bankruptcy and illness, and now has a job but because of her old and I mean ‘old’, car not going it is very hard for her to GET UP AND GO though she is really good at doing her job of painting (she’s an artist too), plastering, building (she has all her certificates and life experience)……….no job is too much for her and I admire the many obstacles she has come through in her life! This may be too late and the car has gone!
What you are both doing is fabulous and inspiring I’m already shedding so much that I don’t need……….thank you.

    Lynne Campbell September 27th, 2009 (#)

this is just what the world needs now….lets get back to what it is all meant to be like…sharing, caring, living life with passion with heart…you can stay at my place in the beautiful Noosa when you’re in that area..heaps of room, close to pool and beach

    RB September 27th, 2009 (#)

I just love your whole idea here.. everyone tends to get caught up in this robotic lifestyle, work, house, family, stress.. I’m a go with the flow kind of person who takes risks and have had the most enjoyable life with my now teenage child to date, (raised on my own). Sure we need things in life and you go without but you will see how you can still be ‘happy as’ when you discover the free side of life. Enjoy living it now…….:)

I think you should visit around Australia places like battered women refugees as they are doing it so hard and need help and they are all starting off again leaving someone who is violent and alot of the time they are leaving the partner for their kids.

    Georgia September 27th, 2009 (#)

    Hello,

I think during your trip you should spend a few days in Warburton, Victoria (Australia). It’s not near the beach it does not a big prawn, pineapple or koala but it is quiet welcoming and you will love it. You might even consider living here in Warburton. It has many schools in and around Warburton. It has good cafes and bakerys. It has the beautiful yarra river in summer and the snow covered Mt Donna Buang in winter, in sping it is covered in flowers and in autumn the trees are covered in red, orange and gold leaves. it has lots of activities that you and your family would really enjoy. Everyone should visit Warburton at least once in their lives.

Very ultruistic… And inspiring… I am supposing your learning just how materialistic, greedy and adventagious people really are? Maybe Nour could do with some money to furher his / her education, therefore enabling him/her with the ability to do for himself too? Good on you both..

Watched your interview on ‘Weekend Sunrise’this morning, and am impressed with your joy and enthusiasm, not to mention your optimism!!!

Here in 1770/Agnes Water, QLD, is surely paradise … well that’s what all my guests think!!! There are many truly beautiful places to park a Winnebago, I moved here nearly 11 months ago and it has been wonderful for me. The wildlife, the birdlife, the bush, the beaches and the people, such a diversity of incredible people!!! Visitors from all over the world come here, the closest point to the Southern Great Barrier Reef … even Migaloo the white whale comes to visit, yay!!!

I look forward to following your journey and listening in on your adventures, thank you for being such wonderful, inspirational people!!!

    Carly September 27th, 2009 (#)

All the best with your adventures, I know this is nervous times for you as well as excitement and look forward to finding out more about how people gain their success in areas that bring them happiness….is it really as easy as visualising what you want and putting all your positive energy into it? I am yet to find out for myself.

What you are doing is a real gift, the gift of giving.

    Belinda Coughran September 27th, 2009 (#)

What courage it takes to leave it all behind, and take the plunge. Diving into the unknown of adventure. We nearly did the same 2 years ago. But for us, it just did not feel like the right time. But then again we sit back now and think will there ever be a right time. I applaude you and wish you all the very best. Hope that some day we will be as inspirational as you.

The is no place like the heart land of this country! Back O’ Bourke has been an aussie saying for ages, so the actual place definetly needs to be on your list! http://www.backobourke.com.au/ Start with the exhibition centre, there are many fantastic people out there and the drought has not been easy on anyone… while in Bourke you need to cross the Nth Bourke Bridge and visit http://www.backobourkegallery.com/. This town was the ‘frontier’ of Australia and has an amazing historical importance to Australia! I hope you do manage to visit this amazing place on your travels

    Julie Anderson September 27th, 2009 (#)

Friendly Greetings! Over the summer months, you simply must travel to and stay in NARRANDERA NSW. I take my 4 children there every January, and e have the happiest time! We stay in the Lake Talbot Caravan Park and walk through to the swimming pool complex. It is so gorgeous and relaxing…good for the soul. You can also take liesurely strolls along the river bank (watching the water skiers flying by!). There is also a koala reservation nearby. It really is a hidden gem. The towns buildings are also very pretty and have alot of history behind them. But be prepared for very hot temperatures! 40 degrees is fairly indicative! Oh by the way… there is plenty of fruit picking in the surrounding towns (Leeton & Griffith). Can you tell that I am from this area??? I can thouroughly recommend this gorgeous slice of rural Australia ;)

    Dear Bessie, Jeff and BlueBell,
Good on you. Heading into the Oz Abyss.
I’d follow the back-packers trail myself,…picking fruit & veg, getting all of the fresh, dusty air into my lungs….Some Pretty un-prison towns surround those fileds, like Cherries in YOUNG, n.S.W. And perhaps panning for nuggets in Ballarat/Bendigo, Vic can prove very beneficial for you three out in the great outdoors.
    Best Regards from,

first of all what a grat idea, i have thought about doing this myself with my two kids, packing everything up and moving gack to mackay,we are currently living in brisbane, and dont like it very much. but just too scared to make the first step! i found an article in a magazine this morning that wrote that you were giving away everything, wow thats amazing, i spoke to my daughter and she suggested i write to ask for a digital camera, as in august 2 days after our holiday down south my car was broken into and they stole my camera memory card and all! so i was unable to print any family snaps of our camping trip. although photos cant be replaced i have yet to be able to afford a new camera and probably wont be able to for some time, mind you i had only bought the camera three weeks before our holiday. newsletters we handed out in the local area failed to help for any leads and so far the police have had no success. so with that, i find myself here and i would be ever so grateful to see if you had one still available, good luck with the trip, whereever you are heading and i hope that your little one feels better, all the best and happy traveling.

    Anne October 18th, 2009 (#)

Bessie & Geoff, I admire you for what you’re doing – NOT an easy task to pack up your old life & start afresh. Just wish I had the courage to undertake such a task!

“Go with the flow” & go where the road takes you – there’s so much to see in this big, beautiful country of ours. Whilst in Victoria, you must pop into Echuca & ride the old paddlesteamers “Pevensey” and “Alexander Arbotnott” (NOT the “touristy” ones!). Take time to chill out by the Murray River. And if you hit Melbourne, I’d love to catch up for coffee & a chat.

Wishing you a safe & wonderful journey.

You guys have a lot of balls attepting something like this, not many poeple , especially from ultra materalistic Sydney, could look beyond there noses and step out into the unknown. We are currently enjoying “family life on the road”. My husband and I and our three kids, 5,6,7, sold all our belongings, houses, cars etc and taken off for life on the road. We left Redcliffe, north Brisbane, 6 months ago and are absolutely loving life on the road. It is stressful when planning but well and truly worth it when you get on the road. I have started a website to assist families to get on the road – because I found that when we were researching plans for the trip, it was hard to find information. Enjoy the trip!!

Hey guys, I really take my hat off to you both, something often thought of by many, yet never done.I live in Gayndah 2.5hrs west hervey bay, pretty well on your way to emerald from sunshine coast. I to have been suffering from depression, subsequently my wife could no longer stick around for. i will be a father in 3 months and have now found a new lease on life, drug free, just support. I would appreciate if you found the time to stop in and say hello. The world needs more like you. Here is a little something i wrote that helps me, and hopefully others.
Life, a journey of struggle and joy, tears of happiness and commiserations
Lessons learnt that are not needed, yet times in life we need help
People pass through with offers of wisdom, others tear us apart
    Thoughtlessness, caring, only for themselves
Time spent through life with one, or many
Paths cross, relationships form, friendships depleted
Materials purchased, not for happiness, for feelings of self worth
Decisions regretted, others life changing, some for the better
For some love blossoms, other deal with bereavement, and loss of family
Life for some is a breeze; others persevere with death and starvation
God has paths for one and all
Some, you would love to follow, others, not wanted by any
What we make of it, and do with it, only one person controls
    YOU
Without love for yourself, hope in life, and a care for others,
Our time here on earth, means nothing
    Live, love, and appreciate all………………….

I think you guys are amazing. My partner and I have decided that there must be more to life too then work and more work so have been thinking about quitting good jobs and selling up and moving to Bali or travelling Australia. Everyone thinks we are mad and our children (who are all grown up and living their own lives) are dead against it. At the moment they (children) are putting us on a guilt trip about what we should be doing. Even though we have lots of doubts in our hearts we would really love to take off and live life to the fullest while we can enjoy it. (I’m 47 and my partner is 54 What do other people think? Are we being selfish and if we do, do our own thing will we loose our children :)

    KANGAROO VALLEY BLOG

What a BEAUTIFUL part of Australia this is! I had no idea it existed!

Lots of folks honking their horns and waving on the way here meant either something was falling of the Winnebago, or they saw us on the show and were saying hello

Met the Ambo drives who we gave the TV to in Bulli. They were so kind and showed us around their station. They also gave us some great tips on the VERY precarious roads into Kangaroo Valley.

Met another lovely lady who emailed us and asked us to stop by in Woolongong. She had lost everything in a fire and was writing a book called ‘How can I help’. She had cooked us the most amazing green bean soup and gooseberry pastries. All grown in her garden .

It really is amazing stepping out of the insular city attitude where you don’t make eye contact and are to busy to stop and chat, to finding people welcoming total strangers into their house and cooking them dinner.

The roads down here were wild. Windy like you can’t believe which was fun with a 31 ft Winnebago. Still it made it admirably even if I was a little tense at the end.

Ollie announced he had forgotten the tent pegs so after much embarrassment I had mercy and rigged their tent up under our awning.

Waking up this morning in Kangaroo Valley made it all worth while – mist and animals squawking everywhere. It is truly lovely.

The folk festival comes to town tomorrow so we are on the hunt for interesting people to talk to about life change and making the most of it.

Emails and phones are giving us grief but I see that as a sign to get with the program and ‘let go’ a little more than feels comfortable.

    Enjoy the pix

all I want to say is, all the best, and i’m so glad I saw you on the morning show, so I can follow you through your lifechangingexperience. I wish though it was that easy to change your life for the common folks.

Congratulations! Now your lives will really begin. Everyone fights so hard to keep hold of what they think they need and yet when you learn to let go, suddenly you find yourself empowered because you are no longer held down, forever trying to climb the invisible rope. You loose sight of the fact that your possesions are actually possessing you.
I learnt these things several years ago after my Husband and I lost everything and were living in a car with a 5 day old baby and 3 1/2 year old.
I realised something that is like my life motto nothing else matters if we have food in our stomachs, warm and dry to sleep then all we need is:
    HAPPY, HEALTHY AND TOGETHER !!
Karma also plays a big part in life, when you pass things that you no longer use, things will come your way when you NEED them.
A mobile phone, computers, t.v. are irrelevant because noone on their death bed ever thought to themselves, humm, I never watched enough t.v. in my life.
And also another suggestion, get rid of the road map too….
follow the signs on the road, it really does make more fun because you realise pretty quick when you’ve missed a turn and you can just turn around, its amazing what you see when you go off the path every now and again.
I could say lots more but I think I would almost fill the whole page..
Good luck, I hope you find that a basic simple life will release you too.
I live in Coonabarabran so if you come through here, call in !

Are you really going to find the ‘unsung hero’s and causes that desperately need your support’ and ‘meet real people who have made real changes and real differences’ when you are on the Gold Coast? I can’t see too many places on your intinerary where you can make a difference or step out of your comfort zone. It looks like a lot of tourist towns. I guess it’s early days though. Look forward to where you head to next.

The both of you are such an inspiration to thousands of people accross Australia. I think it is in every aussies nature to want to beak free and explore the great outdoors. Unfortunately I am not as brave as you and would not be able to give up our business ( or ball and chain whichever way you look at it ). But you have given me the push I need to start planning long getaways and trying new things. Thanks for putting the important things in life back in perspective. I see a lot of people have given tips on places to visit – I say visit everywhere, leave no stone unturned. Especially the small towns off the beaten track as they often contain the biggest characters and greatest surprises.

Hi My partner and I have just had a whirl wind 25 day road trip from Brisbane – Perth via Broome .

There did get a point where we were OVER travelling …….hundreds of miles a day and then having to find either a caravan park or a motel especially in the Pilbara where accomodation is incredibly priced and we thought we would be homeless as even though we had large van with just a mattress it wouldve been far to humid to sleep .

anyway home now one day and the experience is looking better.I remember sitting in a campsite laundry reading a mag and breathed a huge sigh as I realized that this was the first time in over 2 weeks that i had given myself permission to do nothing .

letting go is really hard and it is really people not places that feed our soul .That is my only comment and family is where the greatest love is .

I have found a great community feeling in country towns which i long for now that I am back in the city and realze that everyone chasing material goods is trying to fill the void (the lonliness and isolation in suburbia and it never will.

I think you will learn a great lesson and awakening …

Come on guys, how about doind it for real. Spend some time in the ugly places with the homeless, drug addicted and the down and out in general. Are you going to stay in any public housing if you have the chance? Maybe our beautiful high rise slums here in Melbourne, or one of our disgusting roomimg houses. Use your voices to really make change. Draw attention to problems that are making our wonderful country a sad place for thousands of people.
If you get to Melbourne i would love to show you some of the real world. I work in health care with homeless and drug and alcohol addicted people in our community. If your up for the challenge come see how lucky you are!!!

    Hi Jeff and Bessie,
I met you at the Winnebago Christmas party. Lovely to meet you. One of the quotes that kept coming to mind as you were talking is “Happiness is an Inside job”.
I hope you find what you are looking for in life – both within and without – but within mostly
